| Appendices Fourteen commonly held beliefs that are actually false are identified in Chapter 1. The book devotes one chapter to each of these beliefs to prove that the belief is indeed false. But, another feature of the book is useful supplementary information not found in these fourteen chapters, including unique and hard-to-find information. This featured information is found in the Appendices and some other portions of the book. This featured information is summarized below. ========================================= Appendix 1 "Mathematical Description" Textbooks state that Coulomb's Law is based on experimental evidence. This book claims the experimental evidence is not necessary: Coulomb's Law can be mathematically derived. Appendix 1 shows the derivation. This appendix is for people who have an interest in science, especially (but not necessarily) those who can follow mathematics. ========================================= Appendix 2 "USA Constitution Extracts" What is the relationship between the people and the U.S. Government as defined by the U.S. Constitution? Appendix 2 makes this conveniently clear by showing the U.S. Constitution with everything deleted that does not pertain to this relationship (and the relationship with the individual states), making a short, succinct and enlightening read. ========================================= Appendix 3 "Definitions" The definition of words you read, talk, write, and think with strongly influences your understanding of reality. Standard dictionary definitions are generally intended for the words used throughout the book. However, as some discussions progressed the definitions of certain terms were adjusted to more-accurately reflect reality. Appendix 3 gives these definitions. ========================================= Appendix 4 "The Bible and Government" According to the Bible, God directed Moses to set up a theocratic government that (in addition to religious regulations) had to deal with murderers, thieves, rapists, property restitution, etc. Presumably, these directions define what God wants the (secular portion of the) government to do and not do. Some of these directions do not conform to popular beliefs. Appendix 4 conveniently clarifies the Bible's specifications for government by tabulating the Bible's book, chapter and verse identifications grouped according to subjects many people think a modern day secular government should be concerned with. ========================================= Preface The Preface discusses the relationship between the reader and the ideas presented in the book. ========================================= Chapter 1 "Introductory Discussion" Chapter 1 discusses the issue of how truth can be recognized. ========================================= Chapter 16 "The Devil's Advocate" Chapter 16 has a question and answer format and addresses counter arguments that someone who disagrees with the book may present. ========================================= Chapter 17 "Concluding Discussion" Chapter 17 has a wide-ranging discussion starting with the needs of the human intellect. ========================================= Chapter 18 "Summary" Should you give credence to someone who won't or can't summarize his or her positions? Chapter 18 summarizes the reasoning presented in each of the fourteen common misconception chapters. ========================================= |
